Mitch With an “M”

John Arai “Mitch” Mitchell founded the firm in 2006. Previously, he was a Partner at Katten Muchin, working in both the Palo Alto and Los Angeles offices.He had also worked as a Senior Associate at White & Case and an Associate at Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy.

Mitch graduated from The University of Chicago Law School. As a member of The Law Review, he received the Bustin Award for outstanding student comment:A World without Tribes? Tribal Rights of Self Government and the Enforcement of State Court Orders in Indian Country, 61 U Chi L Rev 707.After graduation, he clerked for Charles E. Springer of the Nevada Supreme Court.

Mitch received his undergraduate degree in political science / international studies from Emory University and spent his junior year in Tokyo at Waseda University. In 2016, Mitch completed the course Mediating Disputes at Harvard Negotiation Institute / Harvard Law School.

Mitch devotes a significant amount of time to providing pro bono legal services to indigent clients and charitable organizations, including Koyasan Beikoku Betsuin (a Buddhist temple in Los Angeles) and several California Indian tribes. He was honored as Pro Bono Attorney of the Year by California Indian Legal Services.

Mitch was an adjunct professor at Southwestern University School of Law, where he taught Federal Indian Law. He also served on the Board of Directors for LAB (San Francisco), the Steering Committee of the California Minority Counsel Program, and the Board of Directors for the Los Angeles Center for Law and Justice. Mitch previously served on the Los Angeles City / County Native American Indian Commission.
